Finished Poster: Our Town

This is the poster for our fall play this year. Rather boring request, but I tried to make it a bit more interesting than just a few buildings on a hill.

The text will be different on the actual as the art teacher is changing it to match the program font. Ugh, I hate sending the original file to people....
luckily I merged all the art layers so he couldn't change anything except the text, haha. I can be a brat sometimes.

I find it slightly ironic that I can draw a fairly decent picture in 30 seconds with the mouse, yet writing words takes 2 minutes and still looks like crap, haha.

I finally started doing "Derek the Jerk" again. I'm very determined to finish this one while also keeping the quality up. So far I'm rather pleased with it. It takes a lot longer to do this unlined style and to actually attempt backgrounds (lol), but it's well worth the work when it turns out well.

I'll start uploading them to the actual webcomic site once I get enough ahead that I won't have to do a page every other day to keep up. Enjoy!

Uh It's been a while since I last posted and the blogger redesign is rather different haha. Speaking of redesigns, I started drawing some characters I had made up for a manga when I was still into that in 7th grade. I'm not doing them in an anime style but I just kept the names since I didn't want to change it completely. Anyway, here is a little sketch I made of a couple of the characters.

Starting to sketch out possible styles for our musical poster due mid-April....
Here I tried a more retro style, but it might be too "cutesy" as has been an issue in the past.
However, that tended to work for Into The Woods....

The colors are pretty terrible haha.
In this case I like Dorothy and the Tin Man and don't really like the way the Cowardly Lion or the
Scarecrow came out. I'll have to work it out I suppose.

I have some difficulties with this poster since I just spent the last year reading the entire Oz series, and the depictions in the film and in the books are so different from one another.

I hadn't done flash in two years....

...So I was like let's do this.

But when I last did flash we had a different computer and version of flash....
and on this new version the way you make smooth animations, like her eyes opening, (they're called tweens) was completely different.
So I got on at about 10:30 and was like I'm gonna' try a half-hour animation and then here we are at 12:30 because I was trying it and was like, "AHHHH WHY AREN'T THERE ARROWS WHAT DID I DO WRONGGGG GRAAAAHHHH." Or something along those lines. :)
So sad that I was better at this animation-programy-weirdness in seventh grade haha.
That's when my mom went back to school for webdesign though so I was in those classes all the time...
Gah excuses.

Finally! Into the Woods poster

I finished it yesterday. I still used Photoshop for the majority of the poster but I finally used Illustrator for the first time to do the trees. There will probably be some changes on the final product since the Director hasn't actually approved this exact version yet. However, I'm glad it's finally done, and it was fun to try such a different style of coloring. (i.e. without lines)

I was lookin' through some of my older posts and chuckling over my young naivety...of like a year ago haha. I haven't had this blog that long but just looking at the "Jimmy crack corn and I don't care--or do I??!" post made me wonder what was wrong with me back then. For the record, I have much more reasonable tastes in actors now. In a year I probably will think they look like creepy hobos as well though haha.
But anyway, we aren't here to read about my reports on changing hormones. All I was going to say was that I found it odd that about a week ago I drew these:

ANYWAY you may be wondering, what's so strange about that other than they are cats dressed in clothing?! WELL look at my blog post: "I'm Baaaaack"

The Catcher in the Rye

I read this entire book in one sitting yesterday. Usually I go to the library and grab about five books from the "Classics" section and read a little from each. Then during the summer I go back and finish reading all of the ones I want to finish. So I started reading a little out of this and just finished it before I knew it. I don't know, I guess I could relate to Holden for some reason. The whole novel is just his thoughts. I really enjoyed it.

I found this today when we were cleaning up for guests. I drew it in August. I remember I had started reading The Complete Sherlock Holmes in July and was really mad when I found out they were making the movie with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. GUH! The chronology and the casting for that film was all wrong haha. It's okay, though, because if you've never read Sherlock Holmes you would probably really like it, which is all that matters I guess. Kind of like everybody who read the Harry Potter books hates Daniel Radcliffe....

The New Decade

As the new decade has appeared before me in the path of life, I have found a heavy sense of nostalgia following my footsteps as I walk along. I think about the fact that 10 years ago I was in first grade. I can't believe how much I have learned, and grown, and changed in that amount of time. 10 years is such a short period of time in history, but such a long time in a person's lifespan. I think of when I was 5 1/2 years old, 10 years ago, and can't remember anything except the summertime when I would play in the Cul De Sac in front of my house and go to the park to watch old people play with their grand-kids while I sat on the swings and ate PB&J's. The things you remember when you are young are so strange. The things you think you should recall you can't, but you can remember things that nobody else in the world knew ever happened except you, in your tiny little bubble of childhood.
It's funny how being nostalgic can usually lead you to think about the future. I think about the fact that the time between me being in first grade and now is the same time from now that I'll be 25 years old. I wonder so much about the future. Will I be married? Will I have gone to college? Will I still be in college? What will I be? A meteorologist like I want to be now, or something completely different? And I wonder most of all, when I'm 25, will I still remember eating PB&J's while sitting on the swings in the park?

Ab Party

In my Aerobics class we have to do a thing called "Ab Party". It is not a party. It is fifteen stations of weight-lifting, crunching, stability balls, jump rope and medicine balls. It is not fun. It's actually not very hard to do or anything it is just tiring.
We are in the wrestling room so the wall in the drawing is our maroon wall mats.
The drawing is depicting "wall sits", where you lean on the wall with your legs bent at a 90 angle and see how long you can hold it. You aren't supposed to put your hands on your knees but my partner was doing it, so I did it. I got yelled at.

I mentioned in a previous post a comic I was working on for my integrated class' Holocaust project. It is a 15-page comic based on the novel Briar Rose by Jane Yolen. I would highly recommend the book. I spent a lot of time on this, my teachers recommended getting it published but I would probably want to re-do it if I were to try that since I used crayola pencils out of desperation on this one lol.

I apologize for not updating in like two months, but apparently we'll be getting a computer all up in here pretty soon. Then I'll be able to scan the stuff I've been working on. Name: Otaku basically means geek but the fact that it's in Japanese and that it has a double meaning of "anime fan" kind of urged me to change it. Even though it's still visible in my style, I'm not really into anime anymore. As you can see recently, my art has gotten a bit more "american"/"realistic".
Template: I got tired of the colors
Banner: To advertise the new name and year and to go with the new template, plus more of my "style" if you will.
Year: Pretty self explanitory
Artwork:Tried more of the "realistic yet still cartoony" style with this one and I really love the way the lineart came out.

Dudes, I'm totally sick! Ugh. I have a science test today so I'll have to make that up. Oh well, at least I have extra time to study, heh heh. And I can work on that honors project....

I keep starting new pictures in photoshop, doing the lineart, coloring the skin, and then getting bored. So I don't have any new pictures to show.

I really want to keep reading Wuthering Heights but I have to read my honors book The Bean Trees which is pretty boring. Siggghhhh....

Last night we had lots of fun. Yesterday at school kind of sucked because nobody could tell what I was, ha ha. I was a frat boy, yesterday. Toga and lampshade included. Anyway, somebody took my lampshade so I had to go find it. Like, seriously? Wow. That's pretty sad. "Hey, guys, lol! We didn't wear Halloween costumes because we're juniors and we're waaaaaaaaaay too cool for that! Let's go steal that freshman's instead!"
I think the best comment I got that day was, "Are you a one night stand?"

Lily was a 50's poodle-skirt girl! When we went trick-or-treating I wore my letter-jacket, and since I had a lampshade on my head everyone thought we were boyfriend and girlfriend ROFL. One guy said to Lily, "Does his light ever come on? *chuckle*" and she was like, "Sometimes!" in a really squeaky feminine voice, ha ha.

After trick-or-treating we went back to my house and watched the Nightmare Before Christmas and It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

I love that me and my mom still crack up at all the Peanuts movies, they're still so funny even though they're made for like, ten-year-olds.

So, my favorite holiday is over, but I had a lot of fun, AND I got 4 lbs. of candy. SCORE!
Guess it's time to get down the Christmas decorations!!! >__<

So you know how I posted that comparison between Goru's old and new character sheets? Like the next day I made a new one for Naina. Here it is.

The colors are different because blogger kept uploading the new one in negatives? I had to save it as a GIF which messes with the color a little bit. I like the new costume design a lot better. AWWWW...her and Goru have matching gloves!!! That was so unintentional lol.

Why Does it Change So?

I can't believe how much my style has changed these past two months. O_O It kind of sucks because I'll probably have to redo the first few pages of Witch*Hunt. I mean, I've been working so slow on it that half of the first chapter looks really bad and the other half is like the Mona Lisa in comparison, lol.
I came to realize this today when I was looking at the character designs I posted here a few months ago. I was like, "WHOAH there...is that how it looks in the beginning?!" Not only has my style changed, my coloring technique and the ink I use is also different. Sigh....

Anyway, I decided to redo the character designs, at the very least. When I look at the fact that I've posted the old ones here already, I realize that I've had this blog for a few months, now, huh? Well, today I got Goru done. I'm happy with the result. The old one is on the right, if you can't tell. XD I hope you can, lol.

At first Naina-chan was my favorite character to draw. Her outfit is so detailed and she was also the first character I created for the series. Now, though, I'd have to say that Goru is my favorite. He's so flippin' adorable! He's also the comic relief so I really like writing his dialogue, too. The way he talks is the most similar to mine out of all the characters, lol. Also, I like drawing guys better now that I've learned how to draw them. Did I say he's adorable? lol.

Witch*Hunt Update

I finished the last page today! (I do them out of order sometimes) There are four new pages.

(Read the pages left-to-right, the panels right-to-left, Sorry if it is confusing)

If you don't understand, basically if witches don't have enough strength to cast spells, somebody who has more strength will transfer it to the witch. If they transfer all of their strength they usually die, so they have to have a LOT of strength and good control..lol. If they have enough strength to do that without dying they become the power source. Naina's power source left her for an unknown reason....WHAT HAPPENED? STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT EPISODE.

Hey, man, um...that guy who was suing Jim's new movie backed off and even said that "Jim Sturgess' performance was wonderful"or something like that. The article is on the Links of Amazingness, if you want to read it lol. Check ya later--

I spent FIVE HOURS doing homework today. We had to write a paper for integrated and it took me forever to get anything. GRAAAAAAGh....Also, I've been working on a new flash lately with the ABBA song "Lay All Your Love On Me", which is coming out even better than my "best friend" flash. There's lots of frame-by-frame animation and less tweening. I can't really post it though because I don't know how to change it from a swf to a...well...anything lol.

I drew this in photoshop with my wacom...and it turned out, like, adorable. Or should I say ADORABLE?!! (learn Spanish--it's like exactly the same as English for like half the words) Anyway it's a little embarrasing to show but it's like the best PROFILE picture I've ever drawn sooooo YOSH. I'm too scared to ink it... Now I'm all paronoid about saying "like". TERRY.

I finished the entry for the contest. I changed the clouds, colored the tree, leaves, and finished the lettering. Now I have to figure out how to print it onto the border...I____I;;

If you didn't notice I added a section on the sidebar called "Favorite Songs". The first one I added was "A Quoi Ca Sert L'amour" from 1963. It's in French.

Lastly, I found a thing called PaintChat, if you want to see what it is you can search it on google, but it's a chatroom. On the bottom there's the chatroom, Above it there's a large white canvas where you can watch people draw and draw yourself, just like an animation. It's very cool. Here's a drawing I did today that a girl really liked. She drew hearts all over it and...well, you can see.

On the first drawing, the part that's cut off, what she wrote is "Awesome! Hot!" lol.

Braaaaaaaaces

I went to the orthodontist yesterday! I get my braces off....in exactly a week. :D. I had to take the molds for the retainer; you were right about the writing-your-name-in-cursive-with-your-foot thing, Lily. It DOES work. I didn't gag at all, and I gag really easily, so...
I chose the watermelon retainer. ^___^

I also decided what to do with my savings. I was gonna' save up for a laptop but I don't really need one since I'm the only one who uses the down-stairs computer, anyway. Also, I wouldn't have internet or photoshop (for a while, anyway.) So I decided to get a Nintendo DS so I can play Phoenix Wright. Let's see, I'm watching Law&Order, playing Phoenix Wright, reading "The Woods".....Could I be becoming a lawyer??? *shivers*

Anyway, about the orthodontist. They hold a drawing/calender contest every year so I figured I'd enter before I'm done there. I'm doing October. I decided I wanted to try really hard this year, you know, fancy lighting, backgrounds, details...

Well, last Saturday was my B-Day party. We watched "Across the Universe", which my friend Meagan had never seen before. ...For me. Lol, I've been waiting in aticipation for the Masts' return. THERE IS NO TIME FOR ANYTHING ELSE. Well, they got back and me and Lily have been calling eachother everyday since. Why I'm writing about this I'm not sure since she's the only one who reads this blog anyway. SIGH. I need more publicity!! I wish my family all had blogs like the Stutzmans, but they still wouldn't comment on mine so maybe not. >3<. I haven't colored anything in a few weeks so when I went to color the first page of "Witchdoctor" I was like, "Oh...Wow." But it is complete! And the second page, too! Party!

The last one. I started the actual manga but I have to color the first page so it's taking a while. It's a shonen (boy's manga) called...well, for now I'm calling it "witchdoctor", but I'm still thinking of titles. Anyway, I'm really proud of the character designs. I think they have a nice variety. YAY.

This one is Asuka-senpai. In school -senpai is used to address somebody in a higher grade; at work (in this case) -senpai is used to address somebody who has been working there longer than you.

I spent 3 hours (gasp) coloring a picture yesterday. MY EYES ARE MORE DEAD NOW THEN BEFORE. I didn't think it was possible but I am now officially blind, lol. So it's a character sheet, complete with a color palette and bio, of my character Naina. "Chan" is one of the many suffixes in Japanese that you put after a name. "Chan" is what you call somebody who is familiar to you or sometimes they put it to make a name sound cute. CHA! I've never colored fire before so I just went with it...^____^;;;

Dude, some crazy crack happened today.

So my friend Navpreet and I were going to ride our bikes to the lake by our house. We got there and I said, "Oh look at that dog! It looks just like mine!" And then I'm like, "Whoah, what the heck, Dad?" lol, my Dad and my stepfamily were there and it was really weird.

Then we rode over to my friend Meagan's house to say hi. On our way to the lake we had seen a lawnmower that said "free" on it, and we had joked that we should tie it to our bikes and just drag it around. On the way back from Meagan's house we saw a guy on a motorcycle dragging the lawnmower around. LOL.

THEN later we were riding over to starbucks and my Dad was riding his bike, like, right behind us.

It was really weird. Also, when we went to the park these "latino" people were having a family reunion or something so we started shouting at eachother "donde esta tus pantelones?!" and "tu es una polla!" Goooood times....

I have no life so I post stuff here lol

Uh....I got a new game for my birthday!! It's not a "new game", really...1997...but it's the best! Cha! I had Final Fantasy IX and V, my friend had VI, VIII, Tactics, and X2 (but not X lol) and my brother had X...So I was all "Okay, I want to try VII." So I read up on it and basically everybody's like "OMG IT'S LIKE THE BEST GAME EVER, LOL" So I was all "sweet!" and....

Woah man! Sweet. Lily has a blog (my bff) and I was like "Hey! I should get one becuase I'm bored, lol!" Yeah, I say lol. In real life. That's right. Buuuuurn.
